Flaus I V2 Flosser
Flaus V2: Flossing Smarter, Smiling Better
The team at Flaus approached Doris Dev to design, engineer, and establish a supply chain for Flaus's V2 Flosser. Founded by Sam Coxe, Flaus aims to enhance oral care routines and ensure long-term dental health by turning daily rituals into enjoyable experiences. The objective for the Flosser was to enhance the V1 model's aesthetics, user experience, and functionality.

From V1 Feedback to V2 Finesse
The industrial design process commenced with a comprehensive exploration of brand identity, product category analysis, and market competition. User feedback pinpointed issues with the V1 Flosser’s motor, citing excessive noise and uncomfortable handle vibration. Users also highlighted confusion regarding the V1 flosser's button layout and user interface. Alongside functional upgrades, Flaus aimed to align the device's industrial design more closely with the brand's look and feel.
For the V2 Flosser, the internal architecture underwent a complete transformation, incorporating an alternative motor technology to mitigate noise and handle vibration. The user interface received an overhaul, ensuring a refined visual hierarchy for clear device status feedback. Drawing inspiration from the brand ethos, the V2's shape was designed to create a distinctive, unified product aesthetic that embodied both Elevation and Edginess.
Engineering
The Doris Dev Engineering Team executed the design by employing iterative cycles of CAD design and prototype fabrication. Key engineering challenges included redesigning the flosser's body/floss-head installation interaction while retaining the successful ergonomic design of Flaus V1. Additionally, efforts were made to position the motor for optimal vibration transfer while minimizing handle vibration perceived by the user. Engineering also focused on refining the aesthetic lighting indication elements. These efforts culminated in an engineering solution prepared for production.

Manufacturing
Collaborating with a suitable supplier was crucial to ensure the high quality of the product. The sourcing team pinpointed a supplier adept at surmounting program challenges alongside Flaus and the design engineering teams, demonstrating strong dedication as an excellent project partner.
Selecting Partners for the V2 Flosser
Manufacturing presented its own set of challenges, including perfecting floss-head geometry for both easy installation and secure attachment, optimizing silicone overmold specs to reduce handle vibration, and sourcing various floss types for optimal performance. Through tooling modifications, assembly process improvements, and quality control adjustments, the V2 Flosser transitioned into mass production.
The Results
Flaus successfully launched its next-generation Flosser in October 2023, gaining recognition in TIME's Best Inventions of 2023. Forbes also highlighted the Flosser as an innovative tool that significantly improves flossing accessibility, particularly supporting the needs of individuals with disabilities. Critically, the V2 has garnered exceptionally positive reviews from Flaus customers, showcasing the successful enhancements incorporated into this next-generation device.
