A Better Sleep Assistant
The team at Loftie reached out to DorisDev to to engineer, source, and manufacture the Loftie Alarm Clock. Loftie was founded by Matthew Hassett to help people create a better tech-life balance in their everyday lives.
The goal for the Loftie's Alarm Clock was to produce a smart alarm clock that offers users a full suite of tools for improving their sleep.
Design Development
Doris Dev collaborated with Greg Wolos to bring the product concept to life. The Alarm Clock is a transparent, unibody design with a digital display that disappears from view when it’s not in use. A high-definition speaker enables the clock to play calming soundscapes, guided meditations, or user-created playlists.

Engineering
The Engineering Team worked to implement the design through iterative cycles of CAD Design and Prototype Fabrication. The primary engineering challenge was to keep the internal components and attachment features hidden from the user's view within the transparent clock body. The overall construction enabled a magical quality in which the clock seemed to be floating. Another challenge was to engineer a silicone foot that could attach easily and securely onto the clock's thin-walled base. The end result was an engineering solution that was ready to enter production.

Life with Engineering Ingenuity
Working with a great supplier is critical to build a high quality product. The sourcing team leveraged our network to identify a supplier that was uniquely fit to overcome the program challenges. The sourcing team works hand in hand with Loftie and the design engineering teams to ensure all critical processes could be met to the highest quality. Dozens of suppliers were engaged before the program was finally awarded to the supplier that met the target quality, cost and program needs.
During manufacturing the team overcame a number of unique challenges to produce the Loftie Clock. A major challenge for this product was to source a screen that could look invisible through the transparent outer body when the display was not active. Another challenge was to integrate a small-footprint speaker with high audio quality yet didn't create rattling effects in the assembly.

The Results
The Loftie Clock launched on Indiegogo in April 2020, raising $224,020 from 1,942 backers. Since launch, the Clock has continued to make waves in the world of sleep health, garnering rave reviews across a variety of press outlets including The New York Times. The Clock is available on Loftie's website as well as the MoMA Design Store.
