Good Time I Soap Holder
Making Our Shower Time As Clean As Our Bodies
Good Time is a personal care brand that is part of the Who Gives a Crap family. Good Time's goal is to eliminate all single use plastic from showers while creating a shower experience that is rejuvenating and luxurious.
Doris Dev designed, developed and manufactured their first non-soap product, the magnetic bar holder: your shower’s perfect bath bar storage solution, specially designed to keep the good times going.
ID Foundation
Designing for Easy Access and Organization
A single holder is designed to accommodate three bars, with ample space between the mating indents to allow users to comfortably grab a bar without bumping into the adjacent ones. As users increasingly adopt the habit of using bar soap, additional holders can be added to expand their collection, while still maintaining a cohesive and organized family environment.
Design Development
Sourcing the Right Materials for a Clean Aesthetic
The goal was to bring the vision of a metal body to life, but that proved challenging for mass production. The team strived for a hand-carved, irregular, sculptural look to evoke a unique and one-of-a-kind feel. The solution was found in semi-transparent plastic, which offered a glass-like appearance that catches the light beautifully. Multiple rounds of material sampling led to the perfect choice. To streamline the refill process, a bottom-loading architecture was incorporated into the design.
Engineering
Engineered with Secure Magnets and Longevity Testing
To ensure the effectiveness and durability of the soap holder, several key considerations were addressed. Firstly, the appropriate magnet strength needed for the node or holder was specified to guarantee secure attachment. This necessitated engineering updates to the design to accommodate these feature needs effectively. Additionally, longevity testing of both the soap and the holder was conducted to identify potential failure points and develop engineering solutions to mitigate these issues. It was also noted that comparable products did not exhibit gaps between the teeth, thereby reducing the risk of teeth splaying and ensuring greater structural integrity.
Manufacturing
Overcoming Challenges to Deliver High-Quality, Cohesive Products
Building a high-quality product requires partnering with the right supplier. The sourcing team at Doris Dev utilized their extensive network to find a manufacturer that was perfectly equipped to tackle the project's challenges. The manufacturing process presented several unique obstacles, but the team was able to overcome them, including precisely matching the color blend across three separate components to achieve a cohesive color, material, and finish (CMF).
The Results
The Good Time Soap Holder launched in Spring 2024 changing the way we think about our shower time.
